St Thomas The Apostle's Church, Ammembal
St. Thomas Church in Ammembal has a rich history, beginning with its establishment on December 31, 1931. Initially, this church was part of the Mother of Mercy Church, Fajeer. The revered Fr. Gaspar S. Lewis was our first priest, leading the congregation in a temporary building in the village of Chelur.
In 1945, under the guidance of the venerable Fr. Joseph D Souza, a new church building was constructed at our current location. This new church was officially inaugurated on February 4, 1947, marking a significant milestone in our community’s journey of faith.
In 1969, during the tenure of the venerable Fr. Simon D Souza, the church underwent a major renovation, including modifications to the front of the building, enhancing its structure and aesthetics.
Over the years, St. Thomas Church has been blessed with the service of 16 dedicated priests. Today, we are guided by the venerable Fr. Michael D Silva, who continues to lead our congregation with devotion and care.
